Libertyville Township uses prescribed burning as a management tool to restore and maintain healthy natural areas on its Open Space. These burns take place when native plants are dormant. Prescribed fire is one of the most efficient and cost effective tools for managing natural areas. Safety is our highest priority. Our crews are professionally trained and equipped; our primary concern is for the safety of people and property. Weather is a key factor in determining when and where a burn can take place. Brush piles are also burned throughout the year to dispose of woody debris.

Weather and conditions permitting, the following Libertyville Township Open Space properties slated for a prescribed burn Fall 2022: Casey North, Casey South, Lindholm Park, Milwaukee Ave, Old School, River, and Rt. 137.

If you have any questions or health concerns or you wish to be notified the day of burn activities, please call the Libertyville Township Open Space District at 847.362.9760.
